Paint Night

Welcome Speech – Community Paint Night

Lora –

Good evening everyone, and thank you so much for joining us for our very first Family Paint Night! We are truly grateful to see such an amazing turnout.

Tonight’s event was made possible through a grant that was awarded to our School Council by the Board. This grant is parent-led and was received on behalf of Helen Detwiler. It was awarded with the intention of engaging our community, fostering collaboration, and creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome. It truly reinforces the idea that “it takes a village.”

I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself and my co-chair. My name is Lora, and this is Candice. Together, as co-chairs, we advocate for the school as a whole — not just individual classrooms, but all of Helen Detwiler. We also work together to create fundraising initiatives and community engagement opportunities. Every dollar raised through School Council directly benefits the entire school, and we’re proud to share that all funds raised tonight from pizza and beverage sales will go directly to improving our school facilities.

Beyond just the two of us, we are incredibly fortunate to have a dedicated group of parents and caregivers who attend our monthly meetings. I’ll add that these meetings are open to everyone — you don’t need a formal role to attend. With their support, and the continued collaboration from the wonderful staff here at Helen Detwiler, events like tonight simply wouldn’t be possible.

We’re so excited to spend the evening with you enjoying a guided painting experience led by Dayle, who many of you will recognize as a familiar face from time to time in our main office. In just a moment, we’ll be handing things over to her to walk you through the painting.

Before we begin, just a bit of housekeeping:

· The washrooms are located through the rear doors.

· Please be respectful of the facilities and do your best to keep paint splatters on the tables.

· If you need help at any point, simply raise your hand and a volunteer will be happy to assist you.

We have pizza slices, water, and juice available for purchase throughout the evening — feel free to visit the table at any time. We also have popcorn for sale, being sold by our Student Council, who are raising funds for their end-of-year trip. Please consider supporting them!

Once again, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you all for being here tonight. We are so excited to see the creativity you’ll bring to life this evening.

And with that, we’ll hand things over to our wonderful host — Dayle!
